CIMP is a designation awarded by CIMPA to indicate competence in using the tools available on the internet to plan meetings and manage adult learning. You may use the initials CIMP after you complete the requirements, including passing an examination administered by a George Mason University proctor.

TWO EASY WAYS TO EARN A CIMP:

  1. If you are comfortable with taking courses on the internet, take the self-assessment online. Go to www.cimpa.org/stepby.htm for step by step instructions
  2. If you think you can pass the examination without a course, simply buy the book on "How To Plan Meetings On The Internet" and mail back the enclosed examination card. Then take the examination.

PRE-REQUISITE

You must have already been certified as a professional meeting manager. The following designations will be accepted: CCM, CMP, CMM, CAE, CEM, CSEP,CPPM, CGMP

If you do not already have one of these designations but have been planning meetings for at least 5 years, simply download Form 235 (Meeting Proficiency Profile) and Form 236 (Technology Experience Profile) at www.cimpa.org/profiles.htm, , complete the forms and email to info@cimpa.org. The pre-requisite will be waived.

If you have no designation and do not have 5 years experience in meeting planning, you need to apply for CPPM first.

HOW DOES THIS DIFFER FROM THE CMP, CPPM AND CGMP EXAMINATIONS?

The purpose of this certification program is to assess your competence in using the internet for planning meetings. It's purpose is not to teach you how to plan meetings.

  1. It assumes that you are connected to the internet. There is no software to buy or download.
  2. No group review class expense. You can take self-assessment tests and trial certifications at any time for as many times as you wish from the comfort of your own desk.
  3. Start from any point, jump to unfamiliar concepts, backtrack to review.  In other words, you design your own review classes. Concepts are hyperlinked to content and review materials on the worldwide web. If you get stuck, you can always call or email an instructor.
  4. As you take trial certifications, the Hyperlearning Meter monitors your progress, advises you of your weaknesses and offers links to the modules that will help. At the same time, it provides instructors with data on your progress. Your instructor might call or send you an email to offer encouragement or clarification on issues which you seem to find confusing, as he gleans from the Meter.
  5. When your Virtual Coach shows your Concept Map colored all green, you are ready to take the certification examination. At this time, you can make an appointment with a proctor at George Mason University in Fairfax. You schedule your own examination.
