The global meetings, incentives and events industries have now a multitude of agendas. It is no longer sufficient for conferences or fairs to meet just the needs of their planners and audiences. They must also observe the local administration objectives, follow the government regulations, answer the media requirements, please the sponsors, match the community expectations, and promote international cooperation and goodwill in the world.

The success of stakeholders in the business travel trade depends on availability of advanced technologies, interactive relationships, updated knowledge, attractive job opportunities and clear career paths in the field. Emergence of the business travel industry in Russia needs consolidation of associations to ensure that the needs of different players will be effectively lobbied to the Government.

Mission and Vision of the conference:

The conference is called with a mission to encourage professionalization of business travel in Russia. The Organizing Committee sees the conference as a meeting place of different stakeholders who seek consolidation of the industry, who project favorable changes in the business travel trade: updated technologies, developed business infrastructure, celebrated hospitality and integration in the global business travel network.

There are three measurable conference objectives:

·        to update our vision of the XXI-st century trends in the global business travel trade;

·        to desire and project changes in procedures and technologies;

·        to experience consolidation and to motivate contributions from local, national and international, professional and amateur partners

Unique features:

·        This conference will be the first extended meeting of the key Russian business travel professionals with the board members of CIMPA - the Connected International Meeting Professionals Association. Mrs. Andrea Sigler, CIMPA President,  in her January message to the global meeting professionals wrote: “We do understand that some people may be more comfortable in doing what other planners have done since the 70s. It is not easy to go against the current and take on the established bureaucracy. If so, we wish you well. But if you dare to change for the better; if you have the courage to challenge questionable "best practices" that tend to perpetuate obsolete methods; if you believe that a drastically altered environment needs 21st century thinking; if you believe that the world is a village where we are all connected; if you believe in our vision - YOU ARE INVITED to join.”

·        The Final Document (Resolution) of the conference will be submitted to the corresponding Committee under the Russian State Duma and to the Department for Tourism under the Ministry for Economic Development.

Working Languages: Russian and English

Call for papers:

A selection of papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Papers are invited from educators and researchers from the broad range of academic disciplines covered in the themes of the conference. Papers from international researchers (including presenters at the conference) are particularly welcomed and will be considered for publication in the English and Russian languages in the Volume of Conference Procedings.

Abstracts to be a minimum of 200 words. Abstracts must be submitted by email by 21st February, 2003. Full papers must be submitted by 1st Mach, 2003. An international committee drawn from educational and industry interests will short list the papers to be presented in plenary sessions.

Themes of the conference:

·        Business travel as a state of the art industry. Its share in national/regional/world economies. Conferences/meetings industry trends. Networking and the future vision of the meeting industry.

·        PCOs and other jobs and qualifications in the field; professional requirements; CIMPA certification course for Meeting Planners, relevant certification and licensing issues and
opportunities.

·        Global vision of quality performance in the meetings industry

·        Markets and marketing in business travel

·        IT in Conference Marketing and in Destination Marketing. Benefits of congresses and meetings to the hospitality sector. Current requirements and trends in meeting space planning, design, equipment; trends in program planning; trends in promotional supplies.

·        PR and media, Publicity Tools and Strategies, best practices in marketing destinations, new destinations. Safety and security issues and procedures.
