APPLE PARK HOTEL

By: Andrea Sigler, PhD
President, CIMPA

We did not see the Apple Park Hotel when the site selection team did the first site inspection.  That was because we were naturally looking for 5-star hotels that were within walking distance of the MECC.  But when I was told that our chosen hotel will not have its rooms air-conditioned in August 2002 as originally planned because of budget cuts, I returned to Maastricht. I was certain meeting attendees' would not be comfortable in hot rooms in the summer. That was when I was introduced to Marc Sontag and the Apple Park Hotel.

The Apple Park Hotel boasts an excellent location. In close proximity to an international road junction and though situated only 1.5 kilometers from Maastricht's famous City centre and the Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre, MECC, the hotel is still at the heart of Limburg's green countryside. The hotel's extensive facilities include three functional conference rooms suitable for small-scale or large-scale presentations and parties. In fact, the perfect setting for such events as exhibitions, automobile shows and company presentations.

All 166 rooms are air conditioned  - the only choice in Maastricht at this time, if you want the comfort of a cool room when the outside temperature hovers around the high 80's F, like it did in August 2001.

Additionally, it is fitted with every comfort and means of communication. The rooms radiate luxury and distinction. Telephone with voice mail facility and internet connection,  CNN,  message and wake-up system are standard facilities.

Applebee's Grill  - Part of the unique formula on which Hotel Apple Park is based, is that Food and Beverages have been entrusted to Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar - all American restaurants, but with truly international, even intercontinental fare. Aside from a huge range of food and drink, Applebee's fame results from its offering excellent value for money. I had well-prepared, very tasty teriyaki chicken platter in pleasant, attractive surroundings  for about a dollar more than what I would have paid for junk food in a fast food joint.

The Applebee's restaurants are also architecturally striking, with charming interiors, complemeting the Apple Park lobby to which it is connected.

With Tender. Loving Care - But the best thing about the Apple Park Hotel is its outstanding customer service. It is fair to say this derives from the leadership of Marc Sontag, the General Manager for both Apple Park Hotel and Hotel Derlon, a much smaller luxury hotel. (I recommend dining at the restaurant in Hotel Derlon - built around excavated Roman ruins)

Marc is a meeting planner’s dream partner. Accommodating. Eager to please. Creative. Marc understands the American and international meeting attendees’ unique challenges. A true gentleman, he treats the meeting planner as a partner, not as an adversary. He is as eager as the planner to make the meeting a successful one. At the end of the day, this is what matters.
